Sterts Visits No.11 Downing Street

On Monday, our General Manager, Lucy Donald, swapped the Cornish moor for Westminster, representing South East Cornwall at a reception hosted by Chancellor Rachel Reeves at Number 11 Downing Street.

Local MP Anna Gelderd invited Lucy along to celebrate the launch of the Government's new Great British Summer Savings scheme, and to showcase Sterts alongside cultural attractions from right across the country.

Ahead of the school holidays, Chancellor Rachel Reeves has introduced a temporary reduction in VAT from 20% to 5% on eligible children's meals, family attractions and entertainment. In England, children aged 5 to 15 will also travel free on local bus services throughout August, helping families make the most of the summer holidays while supporting local businesses and visitor attractions.

Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, said:

"Whether it is a fun day out, a family meal or a visit to one of the thousands of amazing attractions across the UK, Great British Summer Savings will support families with the little treats this summer while boosting business across the UK."

Anna Gelderd, Member of Parliament for South East Cornwall, said:

"South East Cornwall has so many fantastic places to visit during the summer, from theatres and attractions to brilliant independent cafés and restaurants. I know many families have had to think twice before planning days out in recent years, so it's great to see support that helps make those moments more affordable.

"It was a real pleasure to welcome Lucy from Sterts to Number 11 Downing Street this week. Sterts is one of South East Cornwall's gems, and I was proud to showcase it at the heart of government as part of this initiative.

"I hope families across South East Cornwall can make the most of these savings over the summer holidays, while also supporting the local businesses and attractions that make our communities such wonderful places to live and visit."

Lucy Donald, General Manager at Sterts, said:

"We're thrilled to have represented South East Cornwall at Downing Street on Monday. There is a huge range of cultural activity going on across Cornwall in the coming months. However, it's a challenging time for small businesses and cultural organisations, so please do support local where you can.

"We're looking forward to welcoming you to Sterts this summer to enjoy the best of performances, nature and creativity. Our programme is packed and there is more to come!"

If you're planning a day out, now's the perfect time to explore everything South East Cornwall has to offer. At Sterts, you can enjoy a range of performances, have a picnic in our green spaces, and visit the Our Stories Our Sterts exhibition. You can book tickets to our events at sterts.co.uk and we encourage you to check out all the events happening across the region!
