Hundreds of lovers of musical theatre from south east Cornwall, Plymouth and west Devon gathered in the summer sunshine on Sunday 20th July at Sterts Arts and Environmental Theatre in Upton Cross for a special show called Ever After!

It featured hits from Broadway and West End shows. The performers come from many local groups, including PGS Theatre Productions and No Walls Musical Theatre Choir from Plymouth, Dance for Life Devon CIC, Sterts Singers and the Teylu Theatre Company.

The audience in a packed theatre enjoyed community theatre at its best, full of emotion, with some brilliant comic moments. There were songs from Oklahoma, The Sound of Music, West Side Story, Les Mis, Mamma Mia and much more. Volunteers provided delicious cream teas and cakes.

It was all in aid of Cancer Research UK and the Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Derriford Hospital and some of the performers spoke movingly about their own experience of cancer. The event raised a staggering £5525.92 which has been split equally between the two charities

The show was organized and directed by Mark Sidey, whose mother was diagnosed with cancer last year. “I’m thrilled by the success of the event, which demonstrated the power of community spirit coming together to support such important causes” he said. “I am eternally grateful to everyone involved in putting the concert together and for the money raised for the two charities”

The Liskeard Local Committee of Cancer Research UK said the event was very enjoyable, a great success and it was absolutely delighted at the amount of money donated for research into treatments for cancer.
