Teylu Theatre Company and Sterts Arts and Environmental Centre are delighted to announce that they are collaborating to produce the 2026 One Act Play competition.
Final judging will be done by a panel comprising an acclaimed local playwright, a local author and a London based theatre production professional.
The competition is open to anyone aged 16+ and entries must be original plays not previously published.
The play should be for a maximum of 4 adult actors and suitable for a studio space, running time should be 25- 35 minutes. There is no theme or restriction on location but it must be a complete, short play not an excerpt.
The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £200 and the play will be produced and performed by members of Teylu Theatre Company at Sterts’ Sturrock Studio on January 22nd and 23rd 2027. Two runners up will be awarded £50 and a performance of those plays will be planned for the same dates, although possibly as a rehearsed reading or radio play at Teylu’s discretion.
In addition a further prize of £50 will be awarded to the best entry from a resident of a PL or TR postcode.
Teylu and Sterts are both passionate about creative development and this project is aimed at showcasing new works. Sterts and Teylu are not for profit organisations and any surpluses made from the One Act Plays project will be reinvested in their work to offer a platform for creative development in their region.
